Leonard E. Fuhrman
1922 – 2005

Leonard E. Fuhrman, age 83, a long-time resident of Miltona, died on Friday, July 1, 2005, at his residence.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 7th, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Miltona with Rev. Noel Herr officiating. Music was provided by organist Deb Joachim and vocalist Ezekiel Fuhrman. Burial took place at the church cemetery with full military honors.

Arrangements were provided by Lind Family Funeral Service of Miltona.

Leonard Erick Fuhrman was born on March 11, 1922, to Henry and Rebecca (Benett) Fuhrman on the family farm in Leaf Valley Township. He grew up in Leaf Valley Township and attended District #59 Country School. Following his education, he worked for Alfred Diedrich, a local farmer, before entering the U.S. Army. He served his country from 1941-1945, under General George Patton with the “Hell on Wheels” Division, in Africa, Belgium, Italy, and Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the Alexandria area, working at Kinkead Cemetery Association before working for United Telephone Systems for many years. Following his retirement, he worked as a groundskeeper for Don Hustad Implement and the Fuhrman Estates until the time of his death. He was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and the Miltona V.F.W. Post #7826. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and planning social events, such as picnics, breakfasts, and lunches, to bring those he loved together.

Leonard is survived by his brothers Donald Fuhrman of rural Miltona and Roger Fuhrman of rural Parkers Prairie, his sisters Cora (and Robert, Sr.) Bast of Rose City, Stella Griechen of Anchorage, Alaska and Floretta (and George) Stegmier of Ada, Michigan, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Myrtle Boever.

Pallbearers were Brianna Fuhrman, Jamie Fuhrman, Josiah Fuhrman, David Bast, Rory Allebach, Jacob Johnson, Albert Zwieg and Steven Connors.
