James Gluba
1928 – 2005
James Engelbert Gluba was born May 8, 1928, in Leaf Mountain Township, the son of Leo and Sally (Wargin) Gluba. He was raised in Leaf Mountain and attended District 70 School.
On June 20, 1951, James was joined in marriage to Lorraine Suchy at Our Lady of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Millerville. The couple raised three daughters Joan, Bonnie and Sheila. For 53 years James worked as a bricklayer. He worked for many years with Carlson Construction. He also worked for several other construction companies. At age 77, he was currently self-employed and still laying brick. James also farmed and raised beef cattle.
James was a lifetime member of Our Lady of the Seven Dolors Church and was a lifelong resident of Leaf Mountain Township. He had an interest in old cars and collecting coins. He also enjoyed farming and was an avid baseball fan. James especially enjoyed time spent with his family and grandchildren.
On May 27, 2005, James died at the age of 77 years. His parents and one brother, Arnold Gluba, preceded him in death. James is survived by his wife Lorraine Gluba of Evansville, his three daughters Joan (and Wendelin) Koep, Jr., of Evansville, Bonnie (and Burnell) Anderson, of Evansville and Sheila (and Tom) Kelly, of Garfield, four grandchildren, one great-grandson, three sisters Cordella Gluba of Edina, Alice Carlson of Evansville, and Jeanne Gluba of Yorba Linda, Calif., along with many nieces and nephews. James will be deeply missed by those who loved him and knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, May 31st, at Our Lady of the Seven Dolors Church in Millerville. Rev. Fr. Eugene Lemm was the celebrant. Rose Korkowski and the Church Senior Choir provided music. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers included Bryce Anderson, Dillon Kelly, Monty Carlson, Jamie Suchy, Willard Wagner and Andrew Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Bridget Johnson and Heidi Kelly.
