Carolyn Gumm
1934 – 2005

Carolyn Gumm, age 71, of Henning, died on Friday November 18, 2005, at the Henning Health Care Center in Henning.

Funeral services were Sunday November 20th, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Henning with Pastor Randy Maland officiating. Doreen Salvog was the organist.

Casketbearers were Rich Knutson, Wade Burlet, Brent Dahlseng, Jon Engelhardt, Andy Elofson, and Scott Brown.

Honorary Casketbearers were Carolyn’s grandchildren and all the staff at Henning Health Care Center. Interment was in the Parkers Prairie Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to Alzheimer’s Research or to Lutheran Island Camp.

Carolyn Lily Huwe was born in Parkers Prairie, on April 24, 1934, the daughter of Louis and Elda (Zimmerman) Huwe. She was baptized on May 1, 1934, and confirmed in her faith on May 16, 1948, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. She was raised in Leaf Valley. Carolyn and Milton Gumm were married on September 20, 1953. They lived in Parkers Prairie, Marshall, and Granite Falls. They then settled in Morris, where thy lived for the next 26 years. Carolyn returned to school and became a Head Start teacher who touched the lives of many young children and their families. She also had 17 foster children. Carolyn loved the Lord, her family, friends, morning coffee with her husband, family devotions, reading to her grandchildren, gardening, camping, singing and Lutheran Island Camp where she later became kitchen manager. She blessed many with homemade breads and soups and served always with a cheerful heart. She will be remembered for her loving heart, gentle touch and her undivided love for her Savior. Carolyn is survived by her husband Milton, daughters Nancy (Rich) Knutson, Vicki (Wade) Burlet, Jody (Brent) Dahlseng, Ginger (Jon) Engelhardt, Marci (Andy) Elofson, and Tammy (Scott) Brown, 19 grandchildren, three special men that she called sons Cach Van Ngo, Neigh Ving Vong, and Nhon Phan Than, a sister Delores (Melvin) Schultz, brother Donald Huwe, brothers-in-law Norm Schamber, George (Virginia) Ketter, and C. E. Syverson, sisters-in law Mary Alice Huwe and Alice (Steve) Hane, step-sisters Mary Wayne and Ann Louise, step-brother Winston along with many nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, sisters Dorothy and Arlene and brother Buddy.
