Magdalen M. Kelly
1920 – 2005
Magdalen M. Suchy was born September 25, 1920, in Urbank, the daughter of Bernard and Magdalena (Lambertz) Suchy. She grew up at Urbank and attended Sacred Heart School in Urbank.
Following her schooling, Magdalen worked for Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. On October 7, 1941, Magdalen was joined in marriage to Joseph Kelly. The couple made their home on the Kelly family farm in Ida Township near Garfield. They raised a family of eight children. After raising her children Magdalen enjoyed working for Rural Minnesota Publishing in Alexandria.
Magdalen was a very creative, resourceful and talented lady. She worked as the family seamstress, gardener, and carpenter. She was a master at fixing anything. She enjoyed cooking and was good at it. Magdalen was an avid reader and Minnesota sports fan. She loved music and doing jigsaw puzzles.
A member of St. Ann’s Catholic church in Brandon, Magdalen was very active at St. Ann’s as a CCD teacher she was a member of the Christian Mothers and participated in the St. Jude Mission. Magdalen was devoted to her family and worked very hard for them. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and a woman of deep faith.
On Saturday, August 20, 2005, Magdalen died at the age of eighty-four years following a courageous battle against leukemia. Her parents, her husband Joseph, sister Katherine Seppelt, brothers, Edward and David Suchy along with many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law preceded her in death. Magdalen is survived by her children Sharon Carlson of Alexandria, Joe (and Judy) Kelly of Alexandria, Colleen (and Gary) Boesen of Alexandria, Catherine (and Tom) Rudolph of Sauk Rapids, Mark (and Marilyn) Kelly of Garfield, Anthony (and JoAnn) Kelly of Garfield, Mary (and Charles) Bettermann of Parkers Prairie, and Tom (and Sheila) Kelly of Garfield, twenty-three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sister Adelaide Klimek and brother Raymond Suchy.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, August 24th, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Reverend Fr. Richard Heid and Reverend Fr. Eugene Lemm celebrated the mass. Bernie Thoennes and Evelyn Lanners provided the music. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers included Rodney Carlson, Patrick Kelly, Michael Boesen, Scott Boesen, Chris Boesen, Brian Rudolph, Jason Bettermann, Matt Kelly, John Kelly, Tim Kelly, Andrew Kelly, Grant Bettermann, Dillon Kelly and Nathan Kelly. Magdalen’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren served as honorary pallbearers.
