Winston ‘Win’ Olson
1927 – 2005
Winston was born on April 26, 1927, in Parkers Prairie, the son of Hilda and Ernest Olson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. Win graduated from Alexandria High School after returning from serving his country during World War II in the United States Navy.
On April 4, 1948, Winston was united in marriage to ImaJean Lee. To this union two sons David and Dan were born. The Olson family made their home in Alexandria. During this time Win was the owner of Olson Decorating. Later on in life he obtained his boiler's license and became a certified lock-smith. He also was a handyman for many people.
Win loved gardening, baking, canning, lawn care, and he tookpride in giving away his produce. He also enjoyed his many travels to Sweden, dinners at the Coral in Nelson, and sharing his cottage on Lake Mary with his family and friends.
Monday, August 8, 2005, he died at his home in Alexandria. His sons David (and Caryn) of Alexandria, and Dan (and Dawn), also of Alexandria, survive him as do granddaughters Danielle Olson and Stephanie (and Brett) Tewes, two great-grandsons and a step granddaughter, many nieces and nephews and exchange students Charlotte Larson of Sweden, and Anne Pedersen of Denmark.
Win was preceded in death by his wife ImaJean and his parents.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 12th at the Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria, with Rev. William Moeller officiating. Honorary pallbearers were "The Card Club". Rich Merten, Gary Miller, Jim Zastrow, Bob Baas, Jeff Kutz, and Scott Kutz. Military Honors were by American Legion Post #87. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria.
