Charles Oppegard
1917 – 2005

Charles R. Oppegard, age 88, a resident of Henning, died on Thursday, August 11, 2005, at the Henning Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 15th, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Rev. Roger Johnson and Rev. Darrel Vetter officiating. Music was provided by organist, Carleen Markuson and vocalist, Richard Cloeter. Burial took place at the church cemetery.

Arrangements are by Belmont Funeral Home, Henning.

Charles Raymond Oppegard was born April 21, 1917, in Leaf Lake Township, Otter Tail County, on the family farm to Raymond and Mabel (Haugan) Oppegard. He was baptized on May 20, 1917, and confirmed on October 4, 1932, by Rev. J. L. Drage. Following his education, he farmed the family farm. He was united in marriage to Alice C. Hjeltness on July 23, 1939, by Rev. J.L. Drage in Henning. Following their marriage, he continued to farm. In addition to farming, he worked for Sverdrup Insurance for 20 years. Charles was an active and faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He served as clerk of Leaf Lake Township for 28 years and served on the board of directors for the Deer Creek Creamery and District #135 School Board. An avid sportsman, he belonged to the Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed bowling on leagues for many years.

He is survived by his son Stanley (and Suzanne) Oppegard of Granite Bay, California, daughters Yvonne Kristy of Boulder, Colorado, and Joanne (and Ron) Markovich of Centennial, Colorado, 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, sisters Mildred (and Mert) Huntsperger of Tacoma, Washington and Lorraine (and Gaylord) Bridge of Park Rapids.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Elaine and his wife Alice on March 1, 2005.

Pallbearers were James Dilly and his grandchildren Perry May, Jeremy May, David Oppegard, Kristen Markovich, Greg Oppegard and John Markovich.
