William Roers
1902 – 2005

William “Bill” Hubert Roers, 103, died November 5, 2005, at Bethany Home in Alexandria.

Bill was born January 12, 1902, east of Millerville, to Bernard and Anna Daas Roers.

On July 30, 1927, he married Mathilda Marie Wacholtz at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank. They made their home on an 80-acre farm north of Urbank. They then bought and ran a filling station in Urbank. Bill greased cars and changed oil, fixed tires, harnesses and shoes. After some years they sold the station and bought a farm just east of Urbank. They later sold that and moved to Alexandria where they purchased Lilac Lodge on Lake Victoria in 1951.

Bill enjoyed fishing and the many friendships they made through the years. The Roers spent many winters in Texas where they owned a home. They later wintered in Arizona.

After selling the lodge, they kept a few acres and built a retirement home where they lived until Mathilda needed care and moved into Bethany Home. Bill then moved into the senior center for three years and at age 95 he moved into Bethany Home.

Bill is survived by his sisters Mathilda Fruth of Alexandria, Lorraine Loeffler of St. Charles, sisters-in-law Laura Roers of Alexandria and Ethel Kraemer of Arizona, brother-in-law Harry Roers of Alexandria, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mathilda, parents, sisters Louise Becker and Justine Tuel, and brothers Edmund, Anton and Gerard.

Mass of Christian Burial was held November 9th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria with Fr. Al Ludwig officiating. Pallbearers were Lloyd Becker, Erwin Fruth, Bernard Loeffler, Werner Roers, Patrick Roers, Douglas Tuel and Walter Hendrickson. Cross bearer was Matt Roers.
