Doris Schlosser
1922 – 2005
Doris L. Schlosser was born in Long Prairie, on September 28, 1922, the daughter of Andrew and Nellie (Opsal) Anderson. She attended grade school in Long Prairie through the eighth grade. Following school Doris went to work for a family in Long Prairie doing housework and caring for their children.
She met her future husband Awald and followed him to Omaha, Nebraska where he was stationed at Ft. Crook in the U.S. Army. Doris continued doing housework for families in Omaha. Following Awald’s discharge from the Army, Doris was united in marriage to Awald Schlosser on November 18, 1941, in Belle River.
The couple farmed in Spruce Hill Township until 1970, when their son Richard began farming the family farm. Awald and Doris moved to a home on Lake Carlos while Awald was constructing their retirement home in Miltona. They moved into this home in 1971. Doris cleaned and did laundry at Ideal Beach on Lake Miltona as well as start an upholstery business. She enjoyed traveling with Awald to all parts of the United States and Canada. She also enjoyed volunteering and spending time with the seniors in Miltona. Dancing, crocheting, and embroidery work were things that Doris loved to do. Spending time with friends and family, especially the grandkids were what Doris enjoyed the most.
Doris died on Monday, December 12, 2005 at Knute Nelson Memorial Home at the age of 83. She is survived by her daughters Diane (Ken) Bjorklund of Hovland, and Janice (Larry) Line of Clarissa, sons Richard (LaNell) Schlosser of Miltona and Duane (Vickie) Schlosser of Alexandria, ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, brother Wayne Anderson of Staples, sister Marie Lunemann of Clarissa. Doris was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Nellie Anderson, husband Awald, daughter JoAnn, sister Evelyn, and brothers Allen and Donald.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, December 15th, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River with Reverend LeRoy Scheierl officiating. Organist was Joel Walsh and Pat Lunemann was soloist. Interment was in the church cemetery with her grandsons Adam Schlosser, Michael Line, Travis Schlosser, Trever Schlosser, Troy Schlosser, T.J. Schlosser and Shawn Keller as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were Doris’s granddaughters Carol Suchy, Jean Ruiz and Amanda Schlosser.
