Harry L. Strodtman

Harry L. Strodtman, age 95, of Paynesville, died Thursday June 16, 2005, at the Paynesville Area Hospital.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, June 20th, at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville, with Father Richard Leisen officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Harry Louis Strodtman was born June 3, 1910, on a farm near Westbrook. He was the son of John and Helena (Noding) Strodtman. In 1916, he moved with his family to Belgrade where he grew up on a farm northeast of town, and attended District #210 school. On November 14, 1932, Harry was married to Theresa Wengler in Belgrade. Together they shared 70 plus years of marriage, before Theresa died on June 2, 2003. Following their marriage they farmed near Georgeville. In 1953, they moved to Paynesville and one year later they rented out their home and moved to Parkers Prairie where Harry owned and operated the International Implement business for 4 years. In 1958, he began working for Craig Alexander’s Construction in Minneapolis and he also drove truck. By 1961, they returned to Paynesville and Harry retired in 1975 as foreman of the Alexander’s Asphalt Plant.
Harry was one of the founding members of the Paynesville Senior Center. He was also a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church. He loved to garden and he enjoyed fishing and hunting as well. In his younger years he raised deer and horses and fixed up various types of antiques. He also liked to make necklaces and rings out of agate stones. He was a special grandpa and father and will be greatly missed by his family.
Harry is survived by his daughters Shirley (George) Larson of Alexandria, Janet Karger of Brooklyn Park, daughter-in-law Rose Strodtman of Paynesville, 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son DeWayne, five sisters Rose, Lydia, Gladys, Irene, Margaret, and two brothers John and Art.
