Mike Yamry
1949 – 2005
Michael F. “Mike” Yamry, age 56, a resident of Parkers Prairie, died on Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 7th, at St. Williams Catholic Church in Parkers Prairie with Rev. LeRoy Scheierl officiating. Music was provided by organist Kathleen Green, vocalist Dedra Zwieg and the church choir. Burial took place at Parkers Prairie Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Lind Family Funeral Service, Parkers Prairie Chapel.
Michael Francis Yamry was born on April 12, 1949, to Alphonse and Bernice (Bieniek) Yamry in St. Cloud. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Opole. Mike attended school in Opole and graduated from Holdingford High School in 1967. He attended Mayville State College in Mayville, North Dakota, on a double scholarship in football and wrestling. Following his education, he returned to the family farm in Opole, which he owned and operated, doing crop and dairy farming. On July 2, 1994, Mike was united in marriage to Marlene (Platz) Smith at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church by Fr. Steve Binsfield. Following their marriage they lived in Opole until moving to rural Parkers Prairie in June of 2001, due to health concerns. He continued hobby farming until the time of his death. He was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church. Besides farming, spending time with his grandchildren, friends and family, including Roger Smith’s mom and brother was the love of his life. He enjoyed storytelling, trapping, wildlife and his John Deere tractors. He will long be remembered for his joy, generosity and love.
He is survived by his wife Marlene, a son Brad (and Sheena) Smith of Parkers Prairie, a daughter Nancy Chrismer of Chanhassen, three grandchildren Saren, Dawson and Carson, his parents, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, Marlene’s father, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Pallbearers were Jerry Krischt, Linn Smith, Brad Smith, Tim Bieniek, Jim Sobania, Jim Nordlund, Romonie Forester, Kevin Johannes, Frank Arnold, B.J. Becker, Josh Platz and Mark Tweed.
