The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 547, Parkers Prairie Public Schools, was called to order by Lyle Oeltjenbruns at 7:00 p.m.  Board members present:  Glenn Cornish, Judy Moeller, Sheryl Myers, Scott Wagner, Jeff Samuelson.  Absent: Steve Inwards. Student Board Members present: Megan Dreger.  Administration present: Superintendent Tom Ames, Secondary Principal Carey Johnson and Elementary Principal Steve Radtke. Also present:  Scott Marquardt, Dean Yocum, Tamara Ellsworth, Derek Denny, Jim Duberowski, Roger Rewitzer, Jennifer Marquardt and Tammy Larson.

Motion by Myers, seconded by Cornish and carried, to approve the revised agenda. 

Motion by Moeller, seconded by Myers and carried, to approve the minutes from the March regular board meeting and March Special Meeting.

Superintendent Report:

    •    Superintendent Ames reported that the 7th grade Computer Class teacher cannot return next year.  Principal Carey Johnson stated there have been some applicants/interest recently.  The idea of Job Share (with other districts) for this position was discussed.

    •    Superintendent Ames provided an update on recent Legislative developments.

    •    Superintendent Ames provided information on important dates for an Operating Referendum

Principal Reports:

    Principal Radtke

    o    Reported that MCA testing has begun.

    o    Elementary conferences were held last week.

    o    DARE graduation was held on April 7th.  Thank you to Doug Whiting and Kyle Grinager.

    o    Kindergarten Roundup was held today at 5:00.  Twenty-one families attended.

    o    Requested approval for a Pre-School field trip.  

     Principal Johnson

    o    Congratulated the Winter sports teams on successful seasons in athletics and academics.  

    o    Congratulated the Music department on another great concert and awards at contest.

    o    A $500 grants was received from AAA to be used for the Mock Car Crash.

    o    MSHSL will allow 5 inning games and doubleheaders for baseball and softball, due to many events being postponed.

    o    Congratulated DARE role models, Travis Yohnke and Abbigail Burquest.

    o    Introduced Scott Marquardt who has established a Parent Advisory group to support students and their mental health.

 A RESOLUTION TO ACCEPT DONATIONS was introduced by member Myers, seconded by Cornish and passed unanimously. 

WHEREAS, the District 547 School Board encourages the support of the district’s educational programs through the funding and support of grant opportunities and donations that meet the goals and objectives of the school district; 

WHEREAS, the school district will control and maintain all grants and donations to ensure that the interests of all students are met; 

WHEREAS, the grants and donations listed below have been reviewed and approved by the administration of School District 547; 

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District No. 547, State of Minnesota, to accept the following donations:

    •    Parkers Prairie Panther Boosters for a donation of $750 in support of the 2018 Close Up Trip to Washington DC.

    •    Parkers Prairie Panther Boosters for a donation of $1,050 in support of the 8th Grade Science Trip to South Dakota.
