The Truth in Taxation meeting was called to order by Steve Inwards at 6:58 PM.  The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 547, Parkers Prairie Public Schools, was called to order by Steve Inwards at 7:07 PM.  Board members present: Judy Moeller, Glenn Cornish, Sheryl Myers, Lyle Oeltjenbruns, Scott Wagner and Jeff Samuelson.  Absent:  None. Student Board Members present: Macy Jakubiec.  Administration present: Superintendent Dean Yocum, Secondary Principal Carey Johnson and Elementary Principal Steve Radtke. Also present Christy Hart, Bill Wagner, Jennifer Marquardt, Tammy Larson and several people representing the BHVPP wrestling program.

Motion by Oeltjenbruns, seconded by Samuelson and carried, to approve the amended agenda. 

Motion by Myers, seconded by Cornish and carried, to approve the minutes from the November regular and special board meetings.

Motion by  Cornish, seconded by Myers and carried, to approve Hand Payable checks totaling $21,852.36; Wire transfers totaling $237,148.01; Board Payable I checks totaling $37,097.30; Board Payable II checks totaling $67,309.36; and Additional Wires totaling 852.63.  

Superintendent Report:

• Update from Bill Wagner on the BHVPP wrestling program.  The focus of the program is Communication, Goal Setting and Public Relations.

Principal Reports:

Principal Radtke

• The Elementary music programs are Friday, December 14th.

• Thank you to Laurie Koep for another successful Spelling Bee for grades 5-6.  Nine students advanced to the District Bee.

• On December 11th, ECFE held a program called “An Evening with the Grinch” for children birth – preschool age.

Principal Johnson

• Congratulations to the Music department on another successful winter music concert and to the Drama department for a very entertaining Fall Play.  Thank you to Dale Plasek for painting the Old Gym stage and to Diane Pray for repairing the curtains.  

• Mrs. Ellsworth would like to run a fundraiser to help the victims of the fires in California.

• Bonita Oestreich will have a student teacher from U of M Crookston, starting in January.

• Superintendent Yocum has ballots for the Region 1 election.  Region 1 is the vendor for the business office operations.

• Superintendent Yocum and incoming school board member Christy Hart attended MSBA Phase I and II training. 

• School emails have been created for all board members.

• RAED’s November update was discussed.

Unfinished Business: 

• Motion by Samuelson, seconded by Myers and carried, to approve the Certified Seniority lists for 2018-2019 as presented.

New Business:

• A RESOLUTION TO ACCEPT DONATIONS was introduced by member Myers, seconded by Oeltjenbruns and passed unanimously. 

WHEREAS, the District 547 School Board encourages the support of the district’s educational programs through the funding and support of grant opportunities and donations that meet the goals and objectives of the school district; 

WHEREAS, the school district will control and maintain all grants and donations to ensure that the interests of all students are met; 

WHEREAS, the grants and donations listed below have been reviewed and approved by the administration of School District 547; 

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District No. 547, State of Minnesota, to accept the following donations:

* Carlos Lions Club for $500 to Close-up to Washington DC trip. 

Motion by Oeltjenbruns, seconded by Wagner and carried, to approve the revised Wrestling Cooperative contract with Bertha-Hewitt and Verndale schools.

Motion by  Cornish, seconded by Moeller and carried, to certify the final levy for 2018 Payable 2019 as follows:

General Ed $908,664.47

Community Service 37,160.06

Debt Service $306,734.46

Total $1,252,558.99

Motion by Myers, seconded by Moeller and carried, to approve the World’s Best Workforce Report as presented.

Member Moeller introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption. Resolution was seconded by Myers and carried unanimously.  RESOLUTION DESGINATING ANNUAL POLLING PLACE.  The complete resolution is on file at the District Office.

Member Oeljtenbruns introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption. Resolution was seconded by Samuelson and carried unanimously.  RESOLUTION FOR MULTIPLE PRECINCTS AND DESIGNATING HOURS DURING WHICH THE POLLING PLACES WILL REMAIN OPEN FOR VOTING FOR SCHOOL DISTRICT ELECTIONS NOT HELD ON THE DAY OF A STATEWIDE ELECTION.  The complete resolution is on file at the District Office.

Motion by Myers, seconded by Cornish and carried, to hire Blake Saathoff as the C squad girls basketball coach, at the conclusion of the junior high season.

Motion by Cornish, seconded by Wagner and carried, to add Dean Yocum as the district Iowa (Identified Official with Authority) to assign duties and access and designate Carey Johnson to add and remove names.

Motion by Oeltjenbruns, seconded by Myers and carried, to hire Mike Johnson as the Head Football coach beginning in the 2019-20 school year.

Motion by Moeller, seconded by Cornish and carried, to approve maternity leave for Shannon Wicklund, starting approximately April 26th.

Miltona Township

Road Maintenance & Gravel Quote 


Miltona Township is seeking a quote for road maintenance and class 5 gravel. There are approximately 36 miles of road, starting April 1, 2019 for two years.


Quote should be written on plain paper and submitted to Miltona Township Thomas Blank, Clerk 12710 Parview Lane Ne Miltona MN  56354, or in person on Monday February 11, at the Miltona Community Center in Miltona at 7:00 pm.  


Information on the quote is to include the following:

-Description of all equipment to be used and the hourly rate for each.

-All equipment must have an hour meter to allow for verification of work

-A certificate of liability/workman’s compensation insurance is to be attached.

-Price per yard of Class 5 gravel.

-Number of employees, and specifically the number of snowplow equipment.
